Joseph and Betty (Morehouse) Beers

My fifth great-grandfather Joseph Beers, the son of Ephraim and Mary (Fanton) Beers, was baptized on November 28, 1775 in Weston, Connecticut.

On August 19, 1798, he married Betty Morehouse, daughter of Jesse and Hannah (Mills) Morehouse, in Weston. She was baptized March 9, 1780 in Green's Farm Church in Westport, Connecticut. Calculating from the information on her gravestone, she was born January 11, 1780.

A farmer, Joseph appears to be a life-long resident of Weston.  He appears in the 1850 US census with wife Betty in the town of Weston.  I have not found a death record for him but I do not find him in the 1860 US census. Betty died May 16, 1856 and is buried in Coley Cemetery (also known as Norfield Cemetery) in Weston.

I am descended from Joseph and Betty Beers through their son Anson.

Peter Hines and Mary (Harman) Hines

My third great-grandparents, Peter and Mary (Harman) Hines were the parents of Margaret Hines.  Much of their lives remains a mystery to me.  However, Peter was the owner of 92 acres in Cook  Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania conveyed from William G. Robinson in 1833.  He died in October 1845 in Stahlstown, Pennsylvania less than a year after the birth of his youngest son and is buried in the Methodist Church Cemetery in Stahlstown.

Mary Harman, the daughter of Philip Henry Harman and Elizabeth Humm, was born in 1815 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.  She married Peter Hines in say 1833.  Their marriage is confirmed in an 1839 petition by Philip Harman, son of Philip Henry Harman, that refers to Maria married to Peter Hines.  There is a record of Mary with her children in the 1850 U.S. census in Donegal, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania.  But I have not found any record of her after that until her death on December 25, 1895 in Stahlstown.  She, too, is buried in the Methodist Church Cemetery.

Children of Peter and Mary Hines:

  1. Harman P. Hines, born January 11, 1834, Stahlstown, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania; died November 29, 1917, Ligonier, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania; married Euphemia Johnson.
  2. Margaret J. Hines, born January 22, 1836, Pennsylvania; died January 24, 1884, Pennsylvania; married Henry Ferry.
  3. Catherine Elizabeth Hines, born February 5, 1840, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania; died January 9, 1917, Johnstown, Cambria, Pennsylvania; married William Deater.
  4. Henrietta Hines, born September 29, 1841, Pennsylvania; died September 21, 1909, Derry, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania; married Hiram Shirey.
  5. John Hines, born 1842, Pennsylvania; married Elizabeth.
  6. Isaiah Mechling Hines, born March 8, 1845, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania; died December 23, 1926, Cook, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania; married Mary P. Thompson.
